Politico
US political news outlet owned by Germany's Axel Springer
Politico is a political news organization headquartered in Arlington County, Virginia. It launched on 23 January 2007 as The Politico, backed by the banker and media executive Robert Allbritton, with John F. Harris and Jim VandeHei, formerly of The Washington Post, as its top editors. Goli Sheikholeslami has been CEO since 2022; in March 2026 Politico said Jonathan Greenberger would succeed Harris as global editor from 1 May.Sources:2Wikipedia: Politico, Wikipedia (source, opens in a new tab)
The German publisher Axel Springer bought Politico in 2021 for more than $1 billion; its CEO Mathias Döpfner said Politico staff would be required to adhere to the company's principles. Under a split agreed in September 2024, Axel Springer's media titles stay with Döpfner and Friede Springer, who together held 95% of the company as of April 2025, while the investors KKR and CPP Investments take the classifieds businesses.Sources:2Wikipedia: Politico, Wikipedia (source, opens in a new tab)3Wikipedia: Mathias Döpfner, Wikipedia (source, opens in a new tab)5The Brussels Times: Axel Springer media company, owner of Bild and Politico, to be split up, The Brussels Times (source, opens in a new tab)
