Fox News Channel is a US cable news and political commentary channel, with the website foxnews.com, launched on 7 October 1996 by Rupert Murdoch with Roger Ailes as founding CEO. It is based at 1211 Avenue of the Americas in New York and is run by Fox News Media (FOX News Network, LLC), a division of Fox Corporation; earlier parents were News Corporation (1996–2013) and 21st Century Fox (2013–2019). Wikipedia describes it as conservative and notes that researchers have called it a "de facto broadcasting arm of the Republican Party".Sources:1Wikipedia: Fox News, Wikipedia (source, opens in a new tab)2Fox News: About Fox News Media, Fox News (source, opens in a new tab)

In September 2025 the Murdoch family settled its dispute over the family trust: voting rights rest solely with Lachlan Murdoch, who is a beneficiary of a new trust holding a controlling stake in Fox Corporation and News Corp, with the arrangement set to run until 2050. Fox News Media describes its output as "opinion and analysis encompassing the principles of free people, free markets and diversity of thought" and positions itself "as an alternative to the left-of-center offerings of the news marketplace".Sources:2Fox News: About Fox News Media, Fox News (source, opens in a new tab)3Al Jazeera: Rupert Murdoch seals deal passing control of media empire to eldest son, Al Jazeera, 9 September 2025 (source, opens in a new tab)

Outside left–right raters

For comparison only. Western raters place outlets on a left–right line, which says nothing about whom they favour in a given story or who funds them; our own tally is above.
