In July 2026 its head, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, claimed in a video that he would fund the Cockroach Janta Party protests. No report shows that any money was sent or accepted.Sources:1ETV Bharat2Republic

India first banned SFJ in 2019 and extended the ban for five years in July 2024. In January 2025 a UAPA tribunal upheld the extension, citing ties to Babbar Khalsa International and Khalistan Tiger Force, "collaboration with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to fuel militancy in Punjab", and "financing terrorism through drug smuggling".Sources:4The Tribune6Deccan Herald

SFJ and Pannun dispute claims that they are funded by Pakistan: in 2023 they sued British peer Lord Rami Ranger in London for saying so. A Canadian expert has said there is no evidence of Pakistani funding of SFJ.Sources:5Daily Pakistan7Pakistan Today
