Anthropic's draft IPO filing shows an $80 billion first-half loss as investors weigh a lower valuation
Anthropic's draft IPO prospectus shows a first-half 2026 net loss of about $80.7 billion, mostly from a $72 billion accounting charge, with revenue up to $16.3 billion.

The Wall Street Journal and Reuters reported that Anthropic's draft IPO prospectus shows a net loss of about $80.7 billion for the first half of 2026. Most of it came from a roughly $72 billion accounting charge tied to a rise in the estimated fair value of convertible notes, not from operating costs. Revenue for the six months to 30 June rose to $16.3 billion from $1.1 billion a year earlier.Sources:1Al Jazeera (with Reuters): Anthropic posts $80bn loss in first half of 2026: WSJ, Al Jazeera (with Reuters), 21 October 2026 (source, opens in a new tab)2CTech (Calcalist): Anthropic's $80.7 billion loss puts its IPO ambitions under scrutiny, CTech (Calcalist), 21 October 2026 (source, opens in a new tab)
Spending on computing capacity nearly quadrupled to almost $9 billion in the half. The prospectus lists at least $518 billion in commitments over a decade, and the Journal reported Anthropic may spend up to $750 billion on compute, including deals still under discussion.Sources:1Al Jazeera (with Reuters): Anthropic posts $80bn loss in first half of 2026: WSJ, Al Jazeera (with Reuters), 21 October 2026 (source, opens in a new tab)2CTech (Calcalist): Anthropic's $80.7 billion loss puts its IPO ambitions under scrutiny, CTech (Calcalist), 21 October 2026 (source, opens in a new tab)
Reuters reported that some investors are considering a valuation of about $1.5 trillion, compared with roughly $2 trillion previously expected for a share sale planned for November. Anthropic told prospective investors its third-quarter revenue was $16.8 billion, up 45% from the second quarter.
